Run a race
我們先回到 run 最初的意思，跑步！

當然，也可以引申為：

當然 run 也可以作為名詞使用：

這個“跑數字”和互聯網公司常說的“跑資料”（run the data）有區別，更傾向於“做計算”（do the calculations），尤其是經濟上的計算。

Run around
接下來學一些 run 和介詞組成的片語吧！

Run around：東奔西跑；四處奔忙
這兩個詞還可以組成一個名詞：

Give (someone) the run around：說話拐彎抹角

Run away
無論是在身體真的離開某地，還是在心理上逃避問題，都可以用：

Run away：離開；逃離；私奔；逃避
這兩個詞可以組成名詞以及形容詞使用。
作為名詞時：

Runaway：逃離者；逃離的行為；一邊倒的勝利

當 run 和 into 組到一起，它卻不那麼簡單地表示“跑進”，而是：

Run into：撞上；遇到（問題）；陷入（困境）；偶遇
當 run into 和“地面”扯上關係時，可以表示兩個意思：

Run something into the ground：對某事追根究底；將某物徹底摧毀

They've run the abortion issue into the ground. 他們持續追問關於墮胎的問題。

生活中的消耗品總是越用越少

有的東西勤於補充就可以，但有的東西只能看著流失，比如時間：

Run down / run up
Run 和 down 組合，意義一般比較消極：

Run down： 斥責；削減；（車輛） 把…撞傷；（機器設備） 逐漸損耗
它也可以轉化為形容詞使用：

Run-down：破敗的；受損耗的
-
A run-down building：破敗的建築
但 run 和 up 組合，也可能會有消極的意義：
-
Run up：積欠（賬款、債務等）；增長；猛升
-
Run up bills / debts：因消費過度而欠債
